Tragedy on the M27: Woman Found Dead on Motorway
A woman has died after being discovered on the carriageway of the M27 between Junctions 11 and 12 near Fareham.
Body Found on Motorway Prompting Police Investigation
Police were called just before 1.30pm today following reports of a body on the westbound carriageway near Downend Road Bridge. A spokesman confirmed a person was found dead at the scene.
“We had a call at 1.27pm about a body on the carriageway between Junction 11 and 12 on the M27,” a police spokesperson said. “Investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.”
Massive Delays as Road Partially Reopens
The M27 westbound was shut for hours causing heavy tailbacks for rush-hour drivers. The Highways Agency reopened one lane at 2pm, but delays continued. Eastbound traffic was also slow-moving amid the chaos.
Ambulance Service Details Rescue Attempt
South Coast Ambulance Service responded swiftly after being called at 1.26pm about a person reportedly falling from a bridge over the M27.
“We dispatched an Air Ambulance Car, a doctor, an officer in a Rapid Response Vehicle, and an ambulance,” a spokesman said. “The helicopter was unable to fly due to the weather.”
Police and emergency teams remain at the scene as inquiries continue into this tragic incident.
