Fire rips through Parkhurst Forest

Fifteen fire fighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a fire at Parkhurst Forest in Newport this morning (Tuesday). Crews are surrounding an area of undergrowth around 30x50m near to the former Camp Hill prison. Crews were mobilised to the incident just before 8am. 2 appliances from Newport, 1 from Ryde, the Land Rover 4×4 from Ryde and a water carrier have all been mobilised. _psEmbed(“https:///uknip.photoshelter.com”); Justin Harden, Group Manager for Hampshire Fire and rescue says the cause of the fire is currently unknown and crews are likely to remain for sometimes digging out the undergrowth to make sure that the fire has been put out. At the high of the incident we had three appliances, a water carrier from Freshwater, a Landrover from Ryde and a support unit from East Cows. “The crews attending have worked really hard to bring the fire under control.
