Man named in North Cheam fatal

Detectives investigating a fatal collision in North Cheam, Sutton, have named the man who died. Police were called to reports of a pedestrian in collision with a red Ford Focus at around 22:30hrs on Wednesday, 30 January on Malden Road. Roger Jones, 74, from North Cheam, died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Officers continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident. Detective Inspector Fiona Craig, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at this most difficult of times and we are working hard to establish the circumstances of the collision. “Please contact us if you saw the incident unfold, or the red Ford Focus being driven along Malden Road prior to the collision. “It took place not far from the junction with the A24 and we would urge you to share any information, or contact us with dash cam footage if you think you can help.” The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has been assisting officers with enquiries. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 020 8543 5157.
