Kent Police is bidding a fond farewell to one of its most dedicated crimefighters as Police Dog Boris hangs up his harness after a distinguished five-year career on the force.
PD Boris has earned a reputation as one of Kent’s most effective police dogs, playing a crucial role in tracking down dangerous suspects, recovering evidence, and supporting frontline officers in high-risk situations.
Throughout his service, Boris became feared among criminals and adored by colleagues, thanks to his exceptional tracking ability, remarkable athleticism, and fearless pursuit of justice.

High-Profile Cases and Heroic Moments
Among Boris’ many achievements:
- He tracked and detained a violent suspect wanted for robbery and kidnap, who had attempted to hide in thick undergrowth in Sittingbourne.
- He chased down and restrained a man in Sheerness who had allegedly indecently exposed himself to two women.
- In Medway, Boris located a discarded mobile phone belonging to a van theft victim, helping officers piece together key evidence in the case.
Even in his final days on duty, Boris demonstrated his commitment to public safety. In just 10 days before retirement, he helped detain three suspects, one of whom reportedly assaulted Boris, causing facial injuries. Despite the attack, the brave police dog held the suspect until backup arrived, ensuring the offender was arrested.

PC Nathan Southern, who worked alongside PD Boris for the past two years, paid tribute to his loyal partner:
“I have worked with PD Boris for just over two years and he has been an exceptional public servant. Many villains who have sought to outrun him have found to their cost that he will relentlessly pursue them until they surrender or need additional persuasion.”

Kent Police praised Boris’ dedication and reminded the public — and criminals — that while Boris will be enjoying retirement, his legacy lives on through the next generation of police dogs.
“Criminals should not, however, be encouraged by his absence from the streets as his younger colleagues will be enthusiastically taking on the challenge of protecting the people of Kent,” PC Southern added.
