Serious collision closes major Isle of Wight road
Firecrews are using specialists cutting equipment to free the driver and any occupants of a vehicle which has been involved in a serious road traffic collision on the major road in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Emergency services are currently on scene at Whippingham Road, where a vehicle has become ‘entrapped around a tree’, trapping those inside the vehicle. Crews were called just before 8pm on Thursday evening. The incident has occurred on a fast bend between Racecourse Roundabout and the Folly Lane that is a know accident black spot. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance service were called to the crash on Whippingham Road at 7.49pm. Southern Vectis tweeted: “Owing to a two vehicle accident along Whippingham Road delays to routes 4 and 5 may occur.” More to follow
