Motorists are facing severe delays and congestion following a serious multi-vehicle crash on the A2 eastbound near Gravesend, which has resulted in a full road closure.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:30 AM, has led to long tailbacks stretching to Dartford, with heavy congestion and delays expected throughout the morning.
Emergency Response and Road Closure
Kent Police and National Highways officers are at the scene assisting with the ongoing incident. According to reports, the crash involved an overturned vehicle, and emergency services are working to clear the scene and assess any potential injuries.

Traffic Diversions in Place
Drivers are being strongly urged to allow extra travel time and follow the official diversion routes. Those traveling coastbound should follow the “Solid Circle” diversion symbol, taking the following route:
- Exit the A2 coastbound at the Marling Cross junction for Gravesend (E).
- At the roundabout, take the second exit, then the first exit onto Valley Drive at the next roundabout.
- Continue on Valley Drive for around two miles to a T-junction with traffic lights.
- Turn right onto the B261 Old Road East.
- Continue to the roundabout with the A226, and take the fourth exit onto the A226 eastbound towards Rochester.
- Remain on the A226 for approximately 3.5 miles, passing through Higham, to the A289 junction/Gads Hill Interchange.
- Non-motorway traffic should continue coastbound by following the second exit, then the first exit, and rejoining the A2.
- Traffic permitted on motorways should take the second exit at the first roundabout, then the second exit again at the next roundabout to join the A289 southbound towards London/West Malling, keeping left to join the M2.

Heavy Congestion Reported
National Highways have now warned that congestion is now stretching back to Dartford, with drivers experiencing extended delays on approach.

A National Highways spokesperson issued a statement urging motorists to:
“Allow extra time for your journey and plan ahead, as the A2 coastbound near Gravesend remains closed due to a serious collision. Please follow diversion routes where possible.”
