Sexual Predator Convicted of Raping Teenage Girl in the 1990s

Colin Moore, 57, of Grove Lane in Camberwell, has been found guilty of multiple counts of rape and indecent assault against a teenage girl during the 1990s.

The abuse began in 1995 when the victim was under 16 years old and continued over the next four years in west and central London. In 2020, the victim, now an adult, bravely reported the historic abuse to the Metropolitan Police.

Following an extensive investigation, Moore was arrested and charged with numerous offences related to the sexual abuse of the teenage girl.

After a trial at Isleworth Crown Court, Moore was found guilty on Friday (May 24) of four counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault.

Detective Sergeant Laura Harcombe from the Central West Command Unit described Moore as a “sexual predator” who manipulated and abused a vulnerable young girl he knew. Despite attempts to justify his behaviour during police interviews, Moore’s actions were unequivocally condemned by the court.

Moore has been remanded in custody pending his sentencing in September.

DS Harcombe praised the victim for her courage in coming forward to report the abuse she endured over an extended period. She highlighted the support provided to the victim by specially trained officers throughout the legal process and expressed hope that Moore’s conviction would bring her some measure of closure.

The conviction of Colin Moore underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to hold perpetrators of sexual abuse to account, regardless of the passage of time.
