Taxi in Collision with Pedestrians near Covent Garden London

Police were called at 5pm on Wednesday afternoon to reports of a taxi in collision with pedestrians in Southampton Street WC2. Dramatic pictures show the cab on the pavement with crowds watching the horrific incident unfold. It is believed that the black London Taxi mounted the pavement near Covent Garden and one person is trapped under a taxi Witnesses have reported that several shops in the area have been evacuated. A spokesman for he Met Police said: “Police on scene at Covent Garden dealing with serious injury accident involving a taxi. The incident is not being treated as a terror related incident Police have released further detials and are appealing for witnesses to contact them: Detectives are appealing for information following a serious collision in Covent Garden. Police were called shortly after 17:00pm on Wednesday, 1 November to reports of a black cab in collision with pedestrians on Southampton Street, WC2. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene. Three people were taken to London hospitals. One man remains in a serious condition; his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. A fourth pedestrian was treated at the scene. The 51-year-old driver of the taxi stopped at the scene. He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody. Detectives from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command are investigating. They would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have filmed it on their mobile phones.
