Robbery and weapon charges have been authorised against a teenage boy following an investigation by the Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.

The 17-year-old, who is from Bermondsey, London, is alleged to have been involved in two robberies which were committed against two men in Rushdean Road on Wednesday 4 November 2020.

Cash, two mobile mobiles, a set of headphones and bank cards are said to have been stolen after the victims were threatened with a knife.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of the offences on Thursday 19 November before being charged with two counts of robbery and possessing a knife in a public place.

He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court the next day, where he was released on bail to next appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 17 December.

Co-defendant Matthew Steers was previously charged with the same three offences.

The 30-year-old, of Sycamore Road in Rochester, is additionally alleged to have assaulted a member of staff at a petrol station in New Road, Chatham, on Tuesday 17 November after re-fulling a car and failing to pay for it.
A vehicle matching its description was then stopped in Jeffrey Street at around 1.40am the next day, after coming to the attention of a Kent Police patrol. The occupant, however, is said to have run from the car and Mr Steers was subsequently arrested nearby.
Following enquiries into these separate matters, Mr Steers was charged with common assault, making off without payment, driving without due care and attention, failing to stop when requested to do so by an officer, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 19 November and was remanded in custody to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday 17 December.
