Two Arrested After High-Speed Police Chase Across South East London

Two suspects have been arrested following a dramatic police pursuit through Lewisham, Greenwich, and Bexley in the early hours of Wednesday morning (23 April).

The incident began just before 4am, when officers attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be linked to a burglary. The suspects failed to stop, prompting a cross-borough police chase involving multiple units and support from the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter.

Police say the pursuit ended after “tactical contact” was used by specially trained drivers to safely bring the suspect vehicle to a halt. Both suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into custody on suspicion of burglary.

A spokesperson for Lewisham Metropolitan Police said:

“A cross-borough pursuit of two burglary suspects through Lewisham, Greenwich and Bexley has led to the arrest of both suspects with the help of the NPAS police helicopter. Both suspects were caught and taken into custody after tactical contact was used by police drivers.”

The arrests were made at 03:55hrs on Wednesday, 23 April.

There were no reports of injuries during the pursuit, and police have confirmed that enquiries into the suspected burglary are ongoing.

Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Metropolitan Police on 101, quoting reference for the pursuit. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
