Two women have been arrested by the Counter Terrorism Command following a public appeal. The appeal, which sought information regarding three women involved in a protest earlier this month, received widespread media coverage. As a result, two women who recognised themselves in the images came forward to a police station in south London on October 30. The women, aged 29 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of inviting support for a proscribed organisation, as outlined in section 12(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2000. They are currently being held in custody at a police station in west London.
While progress has been made, authorities are still seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a third woman seen in social media footage of a pro-Palestine protest in Whitehall on October 14. She is described as having dark skin and was wearing light brown trousers, a long-sleeved red top, a blue denim jacket tied around her waist, a light blue medical face mask, and a dark scarf or bandana around her head. She also carried a dark red shoulder bag. Additionally, help is still needed in identifying a man who was waving a placard supporting Hamas during a protest on Bond Street on October 21st. The man has short hair, light skin, and was wearing a blue jacket, a light-coloured top, a light stripy scarf around his neck, and light trousers or jeans.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, expressed gratitude for the public’s cooperation and encouraged anyone with information about the outstanding individuals to come forward. He emphasised the commitment of his officers, who are tirelessly investigating suspected terrorism offences both online and in the real world. If you have any information regarding these individuals, please report it in confidence online at gov.uk/ACT or by calling 0800 789 321.
