Blaze Draws 20 Firefighters Amid Power Cut
At around 3.50 p.m. on Sunday, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service raced to Guildford station following reports of smoke from a fridge fire. Twenty firefighters tackled the blaze, but it wasn’t a straightforward job. They had to cut power to the third rail, grinding all trains to a halt.
Platform Still Cordoned Off as Investigation Continues
While services returned to normal by 6 p.m., part of the station’s east platform remained cordoned off. A station worker confirmed trains were running again but said the investigation into the cause of the fridge fire is ongoing.
Fire Brigade Teams Up with Rail and Police
The fire department worked closely with Network Rail and British Transport Police to get the station back in action as quickly as possible, easing commuter headaches after the unexpected blaze.
