Water Main Burst Floods Dartford Streets

Muddy torrents gushed through Dartford after a major water main supplying thousands of homes burst. Floodwater surged right up to doorsteps and raced along the streets, causing chaos for local residents.

The damaged pipe is expected to take up to two weeks to fix, leaving thousands without water. Thames Water engineers shut off the supply at around 9.30pm on Sunday to tackle the break.

Thames Water Scrambles to Fix the Crisis

The company posted an update apologising for the disruption:

“Thank you for informing us about low water pressure and no water in DA1, DA2, and DA9. Our specialist engineers have now arrived in the area and are working hard to restore your water supply as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused you. We’ll notify you as soon as we have an update.”

As the water mixed with mud spewed from the ruptured main, residents rushed outside to move their vehicles away from flooding roads.

Dartford Floods Amidst Severe Drought and Hosepipe Ban

The bizarre flood scenes sharply contrast with the dry spell affecting much of the South East, where millions face a hosepipe ban due to drought. Kent and Sussex will see restrictions begin on Friday, August 12, following South East Water’s announcement.

  • Hosepipes banned for watering gardens and cleaning cars
  • Filling ornamental ponds and swimming pools also prohibited

The UK is sweltering through a heatwave, with temperatures set to hit 29°C next week in London. Official data confirms last month was the driest July since 1935, ramping up pressure on water supplies across the region.

South East Water, which serves 2.2 million customers, is now the second firm imposing hosepipe bans as the drought bites harder.
