Tragic Motorcycle Crash Claims Young Royal Navy Technician

Rohan Jeremiah Hicks, 21, from Looe, died in a fatal motorcycle smash on the B3252 at Horningtops, between Looe and Liskeard, around 10pm on Wednesday, June 29.

Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute

Born in Plymouth, Rohan was the middle child with an older brother, Callum, and younger sister, Niamh. His dream from childhood was to join the Royal Navy — a goal he proudly achieved in 2019.

“Rohan was ecstatic to be a Royal Navy air engineering technician who was currently completing his Leading Hand qualification course,” his family said.

Described as ambitious, driven, kind-hearted, and charismatic with a wicked sense of humour, Rohan adored his family and friends. His zest for life was infectious, and his loss leaves a huge hole.

The family thanked the public for the outpouring of support and said:

“Rohan positively impacted many more lives than even his family was aware of. We have been devastated by his death – lives will be poorer without him.”

Royal Navy Pays Respect to Fallen Air Engineering Technician

A Royal Navy spokesman said Rohan joined in September 2019, spending most of his career at RNAS Yeovilton with 815 Squadron. Just weeks before his death, he transferred to HMS Sultan to begin advanced training following his promotion.

Captain Jo Deakin, Commanding Officer at HMS Sultan, commented:

“Rohan had exceptionally high personal and professional standards and was yet to realise his full potential within the Royal Navy. He will be sadly missed by friends and colleagues who cherished his friendship.”

Lieutenant Commander Megan Ashton from 815 Naval Air Squadron added:

“Rohan was sociable, eager to participate in all aspects of life on board HMS Montrose in 2021. He loved football and Formula One, and his 207 Flight colleagues remember him as easygoing and charismatic. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
