Brighton to Host Big Screen for Historic Coronation Bash
Brighton has landed a prime spot to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Queen Consort. Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer revealed today that a big screen will be set up in Jubilee Square, joining over 30 locations across the UK showing the event live.
Join Thousands Across the UK for the Coronation Ceremony
The grand Coronation kicks off on May 6th at Westminster Abbey, London. This momentous occasion will crown the new King and Queen Consort, with public viewings planned nationwide to unite communities as they watch together.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is splashing out more than £1 million to fund screens across the country. Top spots confirmed include Cardiff Castle, Belfast City Hall, Piece Hall in Halifax, Jubilee Square in Brighton, and Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester. This guarantees that fans in all four UK nations get front-row access to the celebrations.
Magical Weekend of Festivities Planned UK-Wide
Culture Secretary Frazer promises the big screens will help everyone soak up the Coronation magic. She said: “This will be a magical moment that brings people together to celebrate the best of Britain over a special weekend in May.”
The weekend is jam-packed with cultural festivals, live music, art exhibitions, community workshops, creative games, and competitions. Expect dazzling light shows with projections, lasers, drones, and illuminations lighting up iconic UK landmarks.
Concert at Windsor Castle and Nationwide Street Parties
On May 7th, a star-studded Coronation Concert takes centre stage at Windsor Castle, broadcast live on BBC One and iPlayer. Thousands will attend in person, while big screens show the action for fans unable to be there.
The celebrations continue with tens of thousands of Coronation ‘Big Lunches’ and street parties across the UK and Commonwealth. Last year’s Big Lunches raised over £22 million for charity.
Finally, on May 8th, the Big Help Out invites thousands to volunteer and support local causes like the Scouts, Royal Voluntary Service, National Trust, and RNLI — honouring The King’s lifelong dedication to service.
