Police Hold Online Memorial for Road Death Victims

The Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary have teamed up for a moving tribute to those who lost their lives on the roads. Two pre-recorded memorial services pay tribute to victims of fatal road collisions and will be available online from Sunday 15 November.

Remembering Lives Lost on World Day of Remembrance

The services coincide with the United Nations World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, observed worldwide. Hampshire’s service was filmed at Andover Baptist Church, led by Force Chaplain Reverend Dominic Jones.

Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney joined officers and emergency service reps in the recording. The names of those who tragically died in collisions will be honoured during the service, which will remain online for two weeks.

Tragic Toll and a Call for Support

“Sadly, in 2019, 56 people lost their lives on the roads in Thames Valley and another 43 in Hampshire,” said Superintendent Colin Hudson, Head of the Roads Policing Unit. “The pandemic has made usual memorial events impossible, but it’s vital we remember the victims, support their families, and salute the emergency services.”

He urged the public to pause and watch the service online on 15 November. Families wishing to attend future Road Death Memorial Services can contact [email protected].
