A2 Reopens After Dramatic Four-Car Smash Causes Chaos
The A2 heading into London is back open after a serious four-vehicle crash caused chaos earlier today. The smash happened between Bean (B255) and junction 2 of the M25 (Darenth Interchange), sparking hours of major delays.
Hybrid Car Overturn Sparks Fire Fears
The crash, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, April 19, forced a full closure after a hybrid car flipped over. Kent Fire and Rescue Service demanded the road be shut to tackle fire risks linked to the hybrid’s battery. Three fire engines rushed to the scene to isolate the vehicle and prevent any flames breaking out.
Five Injured, But No Life-Threatening Wounds
Emergency crews treated five people on-site before handing them over to South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics. Thankfully, none of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening.
Traffic Chaos as Motorists Trapped for Hours
All traffic was halted during the emergency response. Drivers stuck in the backlog were gradually turned around from the back of the queue. The jams stretched all the way back to Gravesend and Tollgate Services, sparking widespread frustration.
By 5:30pm, National Highways confirmed the A2 was fully reopened and traffic started flowing freely again.
