A27 Shut After Two-Car Smash Near Eastbourne
The A27 is completely closed in both directions near Eastbourne following a serious two-car collision. The affected stretch runs between the A26 at Beddingham and the A2270 at Polegate.
Sussex Police are on the scene carrying out an in-depth collision investigation. The road is expected to stay shut until around midday, causing major delays for drivers heading through East Sussex.
Eastbound Traffic Diverted
Drivers heading eastbound are forced off the A27 at Beddingham, following the hollow diamond diversion sign. Traffic is rerouted south on the A26 to the junction with the A259. From there, vehicles take the A259 east towards Eastbourne, before joining the A2270 north at the Cophall Roundabout, where they can rejoin the A27.
Westbound Drivers Face Detours
Westbound traffic is diverted at Cophall Roundabout, exiting onto the A22 northbound. Vehicles travel to the Golden Cross junction and switch to the B2124 westbound. They continue to the B2192 junction, then head southwest towards the A26. Following the A26 through Cuilfail Tunnel, drivers can rejoin the A27 at Southerham Roundabout.
Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time and follow diversion signs carefully. Sussex Police warn the closure could stretch into the afternoon while investigations continue.
