Youths Ride Wild, Intimidate Locals
On Wednesday 15 July at around 4pm, gangs of youngsters were spotted riding recklessly through Memorial Park, King’s Road, and nearby areas. Witnesses reported verbal abuse and intimidation aimed at members of the public. Patrols quickly arrived and engaged with several individuals.
Dispersal Order Slaps Down Troublemakers
A strict dispersal order has been imposed across a wide swathe of Herne Bay, covering the park, beach, and train station. This clampdown started at 4pm on Thursday 16 July and will run for 48 hours.
During this time, officers and PCSOs have the power to stop anyone acting anti-socially and order them to leave. Refusal could lead to arrest.
Community Safety Chief Speaks Out
Sergeant Lee Thompson of the Canterbury Community Safety Unit said: “We know that anti-social behaviour is usually carried out by a minority, but it can have a devastating impact on the community. A dispersal order is just one way we tackle the issue.”
“We’re working closely with partner agencies to deal with this behaviour. We urge the public to keep reporting incidents by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency. You can also report anti-social behaviour online.”
