Line of Duty Star Adrian Dunbar: No Confirmed Return for Series Seven Yet
Fans of the hit BBC drama Line of Duty may have to wait a bit longer. Adrian Dunbar, who plays Superintendent Ted Hastings, revealed there’s still “no definite news” on whether the beloved police thriller will return for a seventh series.
Dunbar Spills the Beans on This Morning
Appearing on This Morning on Thursday, 7 August, Dunbar was there to chat about his new ITV detective drama Ridley. But presenters Joel Dommett and Emma Willis couldn’t resist grilling him about Line of Duty.
“When it happens, yes, absolutely we’ll be excited to go back,” Dunbar said. “We actually don’t know if it’s going to happen. I called my agent this morning to see if there was any more news, but there isn’t any more real definite news about it, sadly, so we’re just going to have to wait.”
Cast Eager but Future Still Up in the Air
Dunbar confirmed he and co-stars Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are keen to reprise their roles if ITV orders another series. The show’s sixth run ended in 2021 with a whopping 15 million viewers tuning in for the finale, sparking endless rumours about Season 7.
Over the past year, McClure and Compston have dropped hints about a comeback. Dunbar himself previously suggested the next series was on the horizon — but for now, the mystery remains.
Line of Duty Fans Left Holding Their Breath
Despite the hype and speculation, BBC insiders have not confirmed a follow-up. The future of AC-12 is still uncertain, leaving fans desperate for closure on one of TV’s biggest crime dramas.
