Ambulance Gets Stuck in Sainsbury’s Car Park During Emergency Call
An ambulance driver faced a humiliating blunder after his vehicle got stuck in a Sainsbury’s car park while rushing to an emergency in Newport, Hampshire. The paramedic squeezed the ambulance between a low ceiling, smashing the store’s lights in the process.
Emergency Response Hits a Snag
The crew was called to tend to a patient inside the store but found themselves trapped. Despite the chaos, paramedics managed to treat the patient on site. Meanwhile, a second ambulance was dispatched to whisk the patient off to St Mary’s Hospital.
Seven Staffers Rescue the Ambulance
It took a team of seven quick-thinking Sainsbury’s employees to free the tangled emergency vehicle. They carefully deflated each tyre, easing the ambulance out from under the low roof.
Clinical Director Speaks Out
“Whilst attending an emergency at Sainsbury’s yesterday, the ambulance became stuck as it attempted to go through the car park instead of around the side, to the main doors,” said Chris Smith, Clinical Director for Ambulance Urgent Care & Community.
“The patient was still attended to by the ambulance crew without delay, and another ambulance was dispatched to convey the patient to St Mary’s Hospital. An investigation is now underway to find out what happened.”
