Three Fires Set in Just Two Weeks
- 18 May: Fire started under a slide at Forton Road playground shortly before 6pm.
- 26 May: Early morning fire between 4.40am and 5am at Alver Valley Country Park damages play equipment.
- 27 May: Grove Road playground torn apart by fire in the early hours.
Inspector Condemns Danger and Damage
Inspector Richard Thompson slammed the “reckless” attacks targeting local play spaces. He said, “It is very sad that these facilities, which are provided for the local community to use and have fun and for the younger generation to explore and build friendships, are being targeted in this way.”
Thompson added: “A member, or members, of our community have taken no regard for the affect their behaviour is having on the wider community as well as the danger they pose by starting a fire. We are working with the local council to stop this happening again so our kids can keep enjoying these spaces.”
