Trans Group Targets Aviva’s Ties to Controversial Investments
Norwich Trans Pride sparked outrage by exposing Aviva’s investments in Barclays. Barclays is linked to defence contractors supplying arms to Israel and to fossil fuel firms, sparking ethical concerns amid the ongoing Gaza conflict. Aviva cited “safety of our people at the event” as the reason for quitting the sponsorship. A company spokesperson expressed regret but stressed Aviva’s continued support for Pride and workplace inclusivity:
“This is very disappointing but we remain committed to the Pride agenda and, together with our Pride Community, will continue the important work we do at Aviva to make our workplace even more inclusive.”
Mixed Reactions as Norwich Pride and Trans Group Respond
Norwich Pride confirmed the sponsorship split on their website but refused further comment. Norwich Trans Pride welcomed the news, stating on Facebook that their concerns had been “acknowledged and acted upon” by organisers.
