Firefighters rushed to a Chelmsford garden after an unattended barbecue sparked a fire, seriously damaging a home. The blaze broke out in Epping Close at 6.32pm on Saturday 26 April, prompting a swift emergency response.

Barbecue Left Unattended Causes Scorching Damage

Two fire engines from Chelmsford Fire Station tackled the flames that engulfed old bedding near the barbecue. The fire scorched back windows and burned waste pipes but was quickly brought under control.

“The barbecue was unattended and fell over, setting fire to some old bedding. It scorched the back windows and burnt the waste pipes, but thankfully the occupants were alerted and crews were on the scene quickly to extinguish it,” said Watch Manager Mark Curtis.

Luckily, a working smoke alarm alerted the household in time, preventing serious injury and further damage. Firefighters had the fire fully out by 6.47pm.
