Chatham Students Get Free Bikes in Green Push!
On June 28, 2022, pupils from Holcombe Grammar School and Waterfront UTC in Chatham scored a clutch of revamped, ready-to-roll bikes. The bikes were handed over by officers from the North Division Schools Team and Medway Council, complete with locks and helmets.
Giving Students a Spin
Medway Council supplied the bikes to help youngsters aged 11 to 18 get active and slash carbon emissions across local towns. School officer PC Paul Dearing teamed up with the council’s Public Health Active Travel Project to breathe new life into these once-disused cycles.
Cycle Craze Builds Momentum
“This scheme has been really well received, and the students have been pleased to be able to be a part of the initiative,” said Sergeant Glen Rickersey.
With a growing waiting list of keen pedalers, the scheme is hunting for more quality, unused bikes to keep the wheels turning. Anyone or any group willing to donate is urged to get in touch at [email protected].
