Massive Blaze Erupts at Walthamstow Car Workshop
Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters have descended on a blazing car workshop on Palmerston Road, Walthamstow. The entire single-storey workshop is engulfed in flames.
Fire Spreads to Nearby Shops and Flats
Borough Commander Richard Tapp, at the scene, said: “The whole workshop is alight, including equipment and car parts inside. The fire has spread to a neighbouring shop with flats above. Firefighters are working flat out to control the blaze and stop it spreading further.”
He added that strong winds are fanning thick smoke across the area. “Residents should keep doors and windows shut. We’ve had a flood of calls about the smoke.”
Road Closures and Ongoing Operation
Palmerston Road is closed and expected to remain shut through the afternoon and evening. Several nearby roads are also off-limits, with authorities urging drivers to steer clear.
The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have handled 34 calls about the fire since it started around 2pm. Crews from Walthamstow, Leyton, Tottenham, Chingford, Woodford, Stoke Newington, and other nearby stations are battling the inferno.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
