The body recovered at Portland Port today, Thursday 7 February 2019, has been officially confirmed by Dorset’s HM Coroner as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala. Search and Rescue Failed Before Breakthrough
On Monday 21 January, the plane carrying Sala and Ibbotson disappeared from radar while flying from Nantes to Cardiff, losing contact just north of Guernsey. Initial search and rescue efforts failed to find the aircraft or its occupants.
Specialist Teams Recover Plane and Body
Later, AAIB and private search teams used specialist equipment to locate the wreckage. Emiliano Sala’s body was recovered, bringing some closure to the harrowing mystery that gripped football fans and the nation.
