Brighton’s Sparkling Mermaids Parade Sends Ocean SOS
Brighton’s iconic Mermaids Parade dazzled on Saturday for its 12th year, transforming the seafront into a glittering sea of marine magic. The procession kicked off from the Peace Statue in Hove and wound its way to the Fortune of War pub, delivering a splashy message on ocean conservation.
From Mermaids to Spongebob: A Sea of Colourful Costumes
This year’s bash was a feast for the eyes. Alongside traditional mermaids, partygoers sported everything from lobsters and fish to the beloved Spongebob Squarepants. Leading the merry crew was Honour Mission, known as The Figurehead, blasting orders through her megaphone and steering the parade along the route.
Waves of Support for Young Minds
The event wasn’t just about fun and fantasy. It also aimed to raise funds for the Wave Project, which helps youngsters aged 8 to 18 with mental health struggles experience the healing power of surfing and the sea.
A Family-Friendly Ocean Celebration with a Cause
Open to mermaids, pirates, and all ocean creatures young and old, the child-friendly parade lasted around an hour. Participants battled it out for prizes in the best-dressed competition, ramping up excitement. Now a Brighton staple for over a decade, the parade shines a spotlight on vital ocean conservation efforts while championing mental health awareness.
With dazzling creativity and community spirit, the Mermaids Parade remains a must-see event in Brighton’s calendar — proving that protecting our seas and minds can be a splashin’ good time.
