The fire spread from the sofa to a nearby fence, putting the entire home at risk. Thankfully, firefighters arrived in time to stop the flames from engulfing the property and to rescue the trapped man.

Firefighters Warn: Don’t Torch Furniture!

The man told crews he couldn’t afford to take the sofa to the tip, so he thought burning it was a smart move. Fire crews have since urged the public not to burn unwanted furniture. Instead, they recommend taking it to the tip or arranging safe disposal to prevent danger and fires like this one.
