Blaze Engulfs Sports Pavilion

The fire broke out at 4:54pm, with crews rapidly deployed from Kingston, Wimbledon, Surbiton, and nearby stations following 54 emergency calls. Thick smoke billowed as flames consumed most of the single-storey pavilion.

Firefighters brought the inferno under control by 7:09pm but stayed on-site for hours damping down and investigating the scene.

Smoke Warning Issued to Locals

Nearby residents were urged to shut windows and doors due to a heavy smoke plume drifting through the area. Emergency services also warned the public to steer clear of Jubilee Way while operations continue.

“Crews worked quickly and effectively in very challenging conditions to stop the fire from spreading further. We thank the public for their cooperation in keeping the area clear for our teams,” a Fire Brigade spokesperson said.

Cause Still Unknown

The fire’s origin remains a mystery as investigators comb the scene. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
