Tragic Child Death in East Ham House Fire
A devastating house fire in East Ham, East London, has claimed the life of a child and left five others hospitalized. The blaze erupted just before 8:30 AM on Saturday at a terraced home on Napier Road.
Massive Fire Brigade Response
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) rushed six fire engines and around 40 firefighters to the scene. The fire badly damaged half of both the ground and first floors. Firefighters got the blaze under control by 9:10 AM.
Emergency Services Rally at Scene
London Ambulance Service sent ambulance crews, advanced paramedics, a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and an air ambulance. Five injured victims were rushed to a major trauma centre for urgent care.
Assistant Commissioner Patrick Goulbourne said: “This is a terribly sad incident and the thoughts of all of us at London Fire Brigade are with the family, friends, and everyone affected during this difficult time. Our staff will be in the community offering support and advice. We’re also providing counselling and trauma services to the firefighters involved.”
Investigation and Road Closures Ongoing
Scotland Yard confirmed ongoing investigations into the fire’s cause and efforts to identify the child’s next of kin. Napier Road remains closed as emergency services deal with the aftermath.
A police spokesperson said: “We’re working closely with LFB and the ambulance service. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.”
The London Ambulance Service added: “Sadly, despite our crews’ best efforts, one person died at the scene. Five others were taken to hospital priority.”
