Coastguard Rescue helicopter called to Guernsey Hospital

A Coastguard search and Rescue Helicopter has this evening carried out a life saving medical evacuation from the Island of Guernsey. The twin-engine helicopter (Rescue 175 m) based at Lee on the Solent was scrambled just after 10pm on Thursday evening. The four crew were tasked to transfer a person needing medical treatment from the Channel Island to Southampton General Hospital. It is understood that the transfer took place just after midnight from the Guernsey Hospital to Lee on the Solent for an onward transfer to Southampton General on route the helicopter flew over the Isle of Wight before being met at the Lee on the Solent base by Paramedics and members of the Hillhead coastguard search and rescue team. The medical evacuation was overseen by staff from the Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (ARCC) at Fareham.
