Body Recovered from Caravan in Shanklin After Complex Operation
A dramatic multi-agency operation unfolded on Sunday evening to recover a body from a caravan in Shanklin. Specialist police officers from both the mainland and Isle of Wight joined forces in a delicate and challenging recovery effort.
Emergency Services Called to Witbank Gardens
Emergency crews were first alerted on Saturday night after a man was found deceased inside a static caravan at Witbank Gardens. The confined space and circumstances meant officers had to plan carefully to safely remove the body.
Police and Firefighters Join Forces
Police Search Advisors and Body Recovery Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabularies worked closely together. Early Sunday morning, a car blocking access to the caravan was removed at around 8:30am to allow entry.
In the afternoon, Shanklin firefighters were called in to help. Fire crews from Shanklin Fire Station cut away part of the caravan’s front to ease the body recovery.
Scene Cleared After Successful Recovery
A private ambulance left the scene at about 6:45pm after the operation was completed. Witbank Gardens was temporarily shut down during the recovery but has now reopened to the public.
Authorities have yet to release details about the deceased. Police have not confirmed whether the death is being treated as suspicious. Investigations remain ongoing.
