Seaford Eyesore Owner Slapped with £2,700 Charge After Garden Rubbish Blitz
Garden Turns Into Junkyard Nightmare
A Seaford resident ignored a council order to clear a garden piled high with rubbish. The result? A hefty £2,700 charge slapped on their house.
Council contractors spent two and a half days clearing junk stacked across the front, rear, and side gardens of the East Dean Rise property.
Council’s Clear-Up Order Ignored
The homeowner received a formal notice to get rid of the “large quantity of debris” within two months but failed to act. The mess, visible to neighbours and footpath users, was an eyesore, spoiling the local environment.
Council Cracks Down on Rubbish Rebels
Julie Carr, Cabinet Member for Recycling, Waste and Open Spaces, blasted the homeowner’s behaviour:
“The outside of this property had become a blight on the landscape for people living nearby and those using a footpath next to it.”
“Our requests to the resident to properly dispose of the waste, which ranged from white goods to old road signs, fell on deaf ears so we had to take direct action ourselves.”
“Anyone else who uses their garden as a junkyard should be aware that they will not get away with damaging the look of the neighbourhood.”
Money To Be Recovered on Sale
The £2,700 charge covers the council’s clearance costs and will be recovered when the property is sold, serving as a warning to anyone tempted to let their garden become an eyesore.
