Millions Set to Receive £300 Cost-of-Living Boost in October
Millions of low-income households across the UK are bracing for a vital cash boost. Between October 31 and November 19, around eight million people on means-tested benefits will pocket a £300 cost-of-living payment. The best news? No new claims are needed—it’s all automatic.
Part of a £900 Financial Lifeline
This latest payment is the second tranche in a three-part plan, which will total £900. The scheme aims to ease the burden on families struggling with soaring living costs. Earlier this year, over six million disabled people received a £150 payout to help with extra expenses. And come winter, more than eight million pensioners will get an additional £300 to help keep their heads above water.
Who’s Eligible and When to Expect the Money
- Eligible benefits include Universal Credit, Income-based Jobseekers Allowance, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Pension Credit.
- To qualify, claimants must have been on these benefits between August 18 and September 17, or have received payments covering that period.
- For those claiming tax credits only, HMRC will pay out between November 10 and 19.
- Look out for payments labelled “DWP COL” or “HMRC COLS” plus your National Insurance number.
Official Warning: Watch Out for Scams
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said, “While we’re tackling inflation, we’re making sure vulnerable households get a cushion from high prices with these payments.” Officials warn recipients to be vigilant—scammers may try to exploit the scheme, so never share personal details.
Pensioners Urged to Check Pension Credit Eligibility
The Department for Work and Pensions is urging low-income pensioners who aren’t currently claiming Pension Credit to check if they qualify. This could unlock extra support during tough times.
With cost-of-living pressures showing no signs of easing, these £300 payments offer a lifeline for millions. Keep an eye on your bank account—you could be next to receive this crucial help.
