Demi Lovato’s Thyroid Cancer Battle Sparks Surge in Head and Neck Cancer Tests

Since Demi Lovato revealed her fight with thyroid cancer last year, Queen Alexandra (QA) Hospital has seen a surge in head and neck cancer referrals. A whopping 491 people have been sent for diagnostic tests — that’s 100 more than the previous year.

Demi Nominates Surgeon for Top Doctor Award

The reality star has now nominated her PHU surgeon, Costa Repanos, for the prestigious Best Doctor award at the national Who Cares Wins health awards, organised by The Sun and NHS Charities Together.

“I’m thrilled to see an increase in the number of people getting tested for head and neck cancers since I’ve openly shared my personal story,” Demi said. “It really highlights the impact of social media and how important it is to talk. Although it was a terrible experience, I’m grateful to have helped people and will continue to encourage people, especially young people, to get checked and potentially save lives!”

Surgeon Hails Demi’s Bravery and Impact

Consultant Costa Repanos added, “It’s really humbling to realise, especially for patients, the profound, life-changing effect that we have on their lives. Demi is an incredibly brave, smart, and determined young lady, and it’s been a pleasure to be involved in her care.”

Demi’s openness is clearly saving lives — proving that sharing your story can make all the difference.
