Unidentified Man Killed on M1 – Police Urge Public for Clues
On November 29, 2019, a tragic crash at junction 18 of the M1 claimed the life of a young man trying to cross the northbound carriageway. He was hit by several vehicles and died at the scene. Over a year later, his identity remains a mystery.
Police Still Searching for Identity After Fatal Crash
Detective Sergeant Mahesh Patel said: “Despite extensive enquiries, including international circulation of his DNA and fingerprints, we still don’t know who he is. This young man is someone’s son, and there’s a family out there unaware of his fate.”
He added, “We’re making a fresh appeal for information. Even the smallest detail could help us find his family and give him a proper burial.”
Police Release E-Fit and Description of Unknown Victim
liverpool/" title="Liverpool" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Liverpool John Moores University created an e-fit to help identify the man. He is aged late teens to early 20s, around 5ft 1in tall with black hair and brown eyes. Notable features include a faint beard, an old piercing on his left earlobe, and two faint scars on the back of his left lower arm.
At the time, he wore a black long-sleeved top bearing the words ‘The Urban Club, Bronx’, a black and grey jumper, and black jeans.
Clues Suggest Man May Have Entered UK Illegally
- Carried a European plug phone charger, some euros, and a Samsung phone with an Orange France SIM card.
- Likely entered the UK illegally, possibly disembarking from a lorry.
- Crossed the southbound carriageway of the M1 before being fatally struck attempting to cross northbound.
