London Dungeon Slammed for ‘Crass and Offensive’ Tweet Mocking Facial Disfigurement
A charity supporting people with facial disfigurements has blasted The London Dungeon for an insensitive tweet that left many feeling unwelcome.
Crude Joke Sparks Outrage
Changing Faces condemned the attraction after a tweet reading, “Did you fall from heaven? Because it looks like you landed on your face.” The message was slammed as “crass and deeply offensive” for mocking people with disfigurements.
Charity Demands Apology
Dr James Partridge OBE, Chief Executive of Changing Faces, said:
“1 in 111 people in the UK live with a severe facial disfigurement. Are these people and their families not welcome at The London Dungeon? Mocking people for their appearance is totally unacceptable.”
He called on the attraction to pull the tweet and issue a public apology. “People with disfigurements already face daily stares and name-calling. When companies mock them, it just adds to their struggle.”
Merlin Entertainment’s Problem Deepens
The charity’s formal complaint to Merlin Entertainment—the owner of The London Dungeon, London Eye, Legoland, and Madame Tussauds—was passed to customer service. A response is expected within 10 days.
Dr Partridge said:
“It’s disappointing Merlin aren’t taking this seriously. Should people with disfigurements expect mockery at their other flagship venues too?”
Face Equality Day: Fighting for Respect
Changing Faces will mark the UK’s first Face Equality Day on Friday 26th May, pushing for fair treatment and respect for people with disfigurements nationwide.
