Van driver ditches baby and girlfriend after police stop in Wolverhampton
Driver bolts, leaves family behind
A van driver sparked outrage after fleeing a traffic stop in Wolverhampton — abandoning his girlfriend and a small baby inside the vehicle. West Midlands Police confirmed the shocking scene.
Cloned plates and no paperwork
The force’s ANPR Interceptors flagged the suspicious van for cloned number plates. When officers pulled the vehicle over, the driver ran off on foot, leaving his partner and child stranded.
Checks revealed the van had no insurance, no tax, and no valid MOT. The driver wasn’t licensed either and has since been reported for multiple motoring offences.
Child safety concerns
“This cloned van was stopped in Wolverhampton after being picked up by our ANPR systems. The driver ran, leaving his girlfriend and a small baby inside the van. He had no licence, no insurance, no tax, and no MOT.”
West Midlands Police have referred the case to local children’s safeguarding services, worried about the risk posed to the child.
Man on the run, public outraged
Police are hunting the man for further questioning. Residents online slammed the driver’s reckless behaviour as “irresponsible” and “dangerous.”
The force vows to keep using high-tech ANPR tools to clamp down on illegal and unsafe driving in the Midlands.
