Massive Emergency Search Underway on Thames at Chelsea

A major rescue operation is in full swing this evening along the River Thames near Chelsea Embankment after a person was spotted entering the water.

The alarm was raised just after 7:30pm, triggering a huge multi-agency response. The london-fire.gov.uk" target="_blank" rel="noopener" title="London Fire Brigade" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Ambulance Service (LAS), and Metropolitan Police all rushed to the scene. The National Police Air Service (NPAS) sent a helicopter to provide vital aerial support.

Fireboats and Lifeboats on High Alert

Specialist fire boats were dispatched immediately, while Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crews launched lifeboats from central London to join the frantic search effort.

Eyewitnesses described a “strong emergency services presence” with flashing blue lights and officers coordinating operations from both land and water.

“We were called at 7:36pm to reports of a person in the water near Chelsea Embankment,” a London Fire Brigade source said. “Crews, including our fire boat, are assisting in the search along with partners from other emergency services.”

Thermal Drones and Hazardous Area Teams Join Hunt

The search has intensified with specialist drones using thermal imaging technology scanning the river for any heat signatures. HAART (Hazardous Area Response Team) medics are also deployed, using thermal binoculars to scour downstream sections.

The Met Police Marine Unit is conducting a thorough bank-to-bank sweep with help from RNLI lifeboats, battling against fading daylight and growing challenges.

Separate Search Near Albert Bridge as Fears Grow

Adding to concerns, a second search is underway near Albert Bridge after reports of another person possibly in the water. It’s not yet clear if the two incidents are connected.

Police have cordoned off parts of Chelsea Embankment, urging the public to stay clear and allow emergency teams to operate safely.
