EastEnders Stars Join Nick Knowles to Revamp Mental Health Hub
Fans of EastEnders and DIY SOS, get ready! The beloved soap stars are teaming up with Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS crew in Harlow, Essex. Their mission? To roll up their sleeves and transform a struggling community project that supports mental health.
Saving Butterfly Effect Well-Being
Butterfly Effect Well-Being is currently squeezed into a tiny portacabin. Founded by Angela Hannibal, this vital charity offers men’s meet-ups, singing groups, teen sessions called ‘Chill and Chat,’ plus cooking, crafts, and holistic therapy classes. It’s a lifeline for those battling social isolation and self-harm.
Angela started the group after losing her mother to suicide caused by poor mental health. Leaving her career as a pharmacist behind, she dedicated her life to helping others facing similar struggles.
Crumbling Building, Urgent Renovation
The local council kindly gave Butterfly Effect an empty building, but it’s falling apart inside and out. Nothing like the warm, welcoming space this project desperately needs.
That’s where Nick Knowles, the DIY SOS team, and EastEnders stars step in. They’re calling on local volunteers and tradespeople to pitch in and rebuild the hub from the ground up.
“This is a special project that does so much to help the community in Harlow,” Nick Knowles said. “I can’t wait to get stuck in with our EastEnders friends and see this amazing build come together. If you have a trade or can donate materials, get in touch!”
How You Can Help
The BBC and DIY SOS want electricians, plumbers, carpenters, plasterers, decorators—and anyone handy—to join their Trades Day on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in Harlow. The big build runs from October 25 to October 31.
If you want to volunteer or donate materials, email [email protected] now to arrange a time.
Catherine Catton, BBC Head of Commissioning, said: “EastEnders and DIY SOS team-ups breathe new life into deserving projects. This will enable Angela and her team to reach even more people in need.”
The EastEnders cast joining the episode will be revealed ahead of the broadcast later this year. This warm-hearted project shows how community spirit can transform lives and boost mental health.
