EastEnders to Celebrate 40 Years with First-Ever Audience-Powered Live Episode
EastEnders fans, get ready! The BBC soap is marking its 40th anniversary with a thrilling live episode in February 2025. But this isn’t just any live show — for the first time ever, viewers will decide a major storyline’s outcome live on air.
Live Episodes Bring Back Flashbacks and Big Shockers
This special live episode follows in the footsteps of EastEnders’ iconic live shows for its 25th and 30th anniversaries. Remember the 2010 live episode? That’s when Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was revealed as Archie Mitchell’s killer. Then in 2015, a live five-episode arc uncovered Lucy Beale’s murderer. Now they’re pushing the envelope even further.
Viewers Will Control the Fate of a Love Story
In a bold first for the soap, viewers will vote to steer a key love storyline during the live broadcast. The cast and crew will adapt scenes on the fly based on the public’s choice. It’s a game-changer for Albert Square and soap history.
“The 40th anniversary is a milestone event for EastEnders, and we have been planning this week for a long time to ensure that it’s full of drama and surprises. This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist—giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines,” said executive producer Chris Clenshaw.
Secrets and Surprises Await in February 2025
While the characters locked in the love drama remain top secret, Clenshaw promises shocking twists that will ripple through Albert Square long after the episode ends. The live event will broadcast from the BBC Elstree Centre — an unmissable moment for die-hard fans.
