Blaze Breaks Out at Brentford Block of Flats
Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters scrambled to a dramatic fire on Ealing Road, Brentford. The blaze gutted half of a split-level maisonette on the ground and first floors of a seven-storey block.
Fire Spreads to Neighbours’ Homes
The flames didn’t stop there. The fire spread to the building’s external fascia and damaged part of another maisonette’s balcony on the second floor. Around 30 residents managed to evacuate before the fire brigade arrived.
Man Hospitalised as Fire Rages
London Ambulance Service rushed one man to hospital. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers handled 31 frantic calls reporting the fire. Fire investigators say the blaze started when a disposable lighter, used to light a candle, was placed on a bed.
Station Commander Jon Holt warned: “Crews faced a fully developed fire on arrival and worked tirelessly to bring it under control. It’s crucial lighters and matches are completely cooled before disposal. Wet matches are best before binning them. Never drop lighters or matches onto flammable materials like bedding, and always keep them away from children.”
The Brigade was alerted at 10:42am and had the fire under control just before noon. Firefighters from Chiswick, Ealing, Heston, Acton, Richmond, and nearby fire stations battled the blaze to protect the community.
