Suspected device shuts down busy City streets
Emergency services rushed to Lloyds Banking Group on Gresham Street after reports of a suspected bomb just after 2.30pm on Monday, 16 September 2024. The area around the bank’s headquarters was immediately sealed off, with police and bomb disposal units scrambling to the scene.
Streets cordoned and offices evacuated
King Street and Gresham Street have been closed to the public. Nearby offices have been evacuated as a precaution while specialist teams assess the suspicious package. No injuries have been reported so far.
Police urge public to steer clear
Authorities are advising people to avoid the area as investigations continue. The Met Police and City of London Police remain on high alert, working together to ensure public safety and uncover the nature of the threat.
“Specialist teams are currently examining the device. We urge everyone to keep away from the cordoned zone while we deal with the incident,” a police spokesperson said.
