Emergency Services Rush to Honour Oak Road Building Collapse
Emergency crews scrambled to Honour Oak Road in South East London after a partial building collapse sparked alarm this Monday evening.
Gable End Collapses at Art Workshop
The incident happened around 5.30pm on December 19th when the gable end of a terraced building – home to an art workshop and shop – gave way. Firefighters from Forest Hill, New Cross, Greenwich, and Peckham stations were quickly on scene, joined by specialist Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) teams from Heston and Croydon.
Evacuations and Road Closures in Wake of Collapse
- Surrounding homes evacuated amid collapse fears
- Local council building control called in
- Emergency scaffolders brought in to secure the site
- Road cordons forcing drivers onto alternative routes
Two residents managed to self-rescue before emergency services arrived but now face finding new accommodation as the building is no longer structurally safe.
Fire Brigade Boss Details Scene Efforts
Station Commander Dan Capon said: “Honor Oak Park was closed whilst crews made the scene safe and a 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution. One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used as an observational tower at the scene to assess damage from above.”
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson added: “Firefighters carried out a full search of the building and removed loose masonry. There were no reports of any injuries. The Brigade was called at 17:24 and the incident wrapped up by 21:15.”
