Bomb scare prompts dramatic police siege in Romford
Emergency services were scrambled on Thursday afternoon after a man barricaded himself in a home on Redcar Road, Romford, claiming to have explosives. The tense stand-off saw specialist negotiators and bomb squad officers descend on the scene at 2.22pm.
Hours-long stand-off ends with arrest
The man, said to be in his 50s, remained inside for hours before finally emerging around 5.40pm. He was immediately arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and possession of explosive devices.
No explosives found, public safe
Police launched a thorough search of the property but found no viable bombs. A Met spokesman reassured locals: “We are satisfied there is no immediate threat to the public. The incident is not being treated as terror-related.”
Emergency services praised for swift response
The London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade also responded to the drama, working alongside the police throughout the operation.
“Specialist officers and negotiators engaged with the man inside the property who claimed to possess explosives. The man was safely taken into custody where he remains,” the Met spokesperson confirmed.
