Tragic Blaze at Beckton Flats Leaves One Dead
Emergency services rushed to a devastating fire at a block of flats on Tollgate Road, E6, on Thursday evening. Police were alerted at around 5:28pm following reports of the inferno.
Fire Rips Through Multiple Floors
The London Fire Brigade confirmed the fire engulfed the first and second floors of the residential block, including the staircase between them. The Brigade received the call at 5:24pm and quickly deployed six fire engines and 40 firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Barking, and nearby stations.
Emergency Response and Casualties
Police, paramedics, and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene immediately. LAS sent five ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, clinical team manager, tactical response officers, Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), and London’s Air Ambulance.
“We treated five patients before taking them to hospital. Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene,” a LAS spokesperson said.
Road Closures and Ongoing Investigations
Authorities have closed Tollgate Road with restrictions on nearby Bradley Stone Road and Valiant Way. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
