Elderly Seal Stranded on Hayling Island Beach for Two Days
An elderly seal has been stranded on Hayling Island for two days, sparking concern among locals. The poor sea mammal was first spotted last Friday, struggling in the shallows and looking seriously unwell.
Seal’s Condition Worsens Despite Rescue Efforts
Despite repeated calls to local authorities and animal welfare groups, the seal’s health has deteriorated. It was found beached early yesterday morning, unable to return to the sea.
Hayling resident Anne Skennerton told us, “I’ve just spoken with Langstone Harbour Board Office: they are aware of the seal. The Marine Conservation diver has inspected it and will keep monitoring the situation closely, ensuring people stay well away.”
Residents Urged to Keep Their Distance
Anne added, “If the seal is approached, it will get stressed and its condition could worsen.” The diver promised to continue regular checks as the elderly animal struggles to survive.
Experts believe the seal may be nearing the end of its life, unable to climb back into the water.
Strict Warnings for Dog Walkers and Visitors
Authorities are urging all residents and dog walkers to avoid the area. Disturbing the seal could cause it further distress and possibly hasten its decline.
For now, the community watches and waits, hoping for a miracle for the old sea creature stranded on Hayling Island.
