Early Morning Blaze Hits Southampton High-Rise Tower

Six fire crews and an aerial ladder platform were scrambled to a Southampton high-rise just after 4am today (Sunday 30th October 2016) after smoke poured from a rooftop compressor room.

Firefighters rushed to the multi-storey tower block after residents spotted thick smoke rising from the roof. Crews from St Mary’s station were backed up by the Hightown 1 aerial unit and a command and control team from Portchester.

Quick Action Quells Fire, No Injuries Reported

Thankfully, no one was injured and the building was not evacuated. Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed that the blaze was “small” and “already out on arrival,” with crews swiftly bringing the fire under control in the compressor room.
