Fire crews from St Marys, Hightown, and Redbridge are battling a blaze this morning at a building within Castle grounds. The alarm was raised just after 9:30am when firefighters encountered a well-developed fire.

Blaze Starts in Bathroom of Historic Building

The fire erupted in a bathroom of the Grade II listed building. Multiple fire engines are on scene, using high-pressure hose reels to contain the flames. Thanks to swift action, damage is limited to some internal partition walls, plasterboard, and parts of the roof.

Specialist Ladder Platform Called In

Aerial support has been brought in from Basingstoke to help tackle the fire. This specialist ladder platform is temporarily based locally while a new fire station is under construction in Basingstoke.

Man Treated for Burns and Taken to Hospital

A 38-year-old man suffered burns to his hands. Paramedics and a doctor treated him at the scene before he was rushed to hospital for further care.
